The complete story
The Chicago Bulls were founded in 1966 as an NBA expansion franchise and have played home games at the United Center since 1994, after three decades at Chicago Stadium. The franchise's defining era came in the 1990s, when Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson won six championships across two three-peats (1991-93 and 1996-98), with Dennis Rodman joining for the second run; that dynasty grew out of a bruising rivalry with the Detroit Pistons' 'Bad Boys,' who had eliminated Chicago from the playoffs three straight years before the Bulls broke through. The team has not returned to the Finals since Jordan's final departure in 1998, and its most recent core was dismantled when leading scorer Zach LaVine was traded to Sacramento for De'Aaron Fox at the 2025 deadline. Owner Jerry Reinsdorf has controlled the franchise since 1985, and the Bulls enter 2026-27 under new head coach Tiago Splitter and a retooled front office led by Bryson Graham after Billy Donovan's April 2026 departure.
