- Cap totals/space are derived from ShamSports' 2026-27 player salary totals; a Spotrac fetch returned an apparently stale/incomplete cap total ($105.4M) that conflicted with the verified player-by-player salary list, so it was not used.
- No Nets number is confirmed retired specifically for ABA-era honoree Bill Melchionni or John Williamson beyond what Wikipedia's accomplishments page lists; included for completeness.
- Ages for rookies Mikel Brown Jr., Egor Demin, and Nolan Traore are estimates based on typical draft-class ages, not independently verified birthdates.

The complete story
The Nets' lineage traces to 1967, when the franchise joined the ABA as the New Jersey Americans before becoming the New York Nets, winning ABA championships in 1974 and 1976 behind Julius Erving. The team joined the NBA in the 1976 merger, relocated to New Jersey in 1977, and reached back-to-back NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003 under Jason Kidd, losing both. Owner Mikhail Prokhorov moved the franchise to Brooklyn's Barclays Center in 2012, rebranding as the Brooklyn Nets; the team is now owned by Alibaba co-founder Joseph Tsai. The star-studded Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving-James Harden 'Big Three' era (2019-2023) generated enormous hype but no championship before being dismantled. Brooklyn is now rebuilding around Michael Porter Jr. and newly acquired Julius Randle after finishing 20-62 in 2025-26, the worst record in the Atlantic Division.
