- The Kawhi Leonard-to-Toronto trade (for Gradey Dick, Brandon Ingram, and picks) was described as 'reported, not yet official' on Wikipedia's last edit, but the current NBA.com roster no longer lists Leonard and does list Dick/Ingram, so it is treated as completed here.
- Darius Garland's acquisition stems from a February 2026 Harden-for-Garland trade with Cleveland, predating the 2026 offseason transaction window, but explains his presence on the current roster.
- Spotrac's cap table (still showing Kawhi Leonard on the books, total ~$212.3M) appears to predate the Leonard trade; Basketball-Reference's updated 2026-27 figures (team total ~$188.9M) were used instead.
- Exact calendar dates for several free-agency signings (e.g. Kobe Sanders, Jordan Miller) were not independently confirmed.

The complete story
The Clippers franchise began in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, relocating to San Diego in 1978 and to Los Angeles in 1984, where the team spent decades as the city's long-overshadowed second franchise under controversial owner Donald Sterling until his forced sale in 2014. Microsoft billionaire Steve Ballmer bought the team that year and has invested heavily since, building the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, which opened in 2024 as the Clippers' first arena independent of the Lakers. The 'Lob City' era of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan in the early 2010s brought new relevance, followed by the 2019 arrivals of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who led the franchise to its deepest playoff runs, including a 2021 trip to the Western Conference Finals, though the Clippers have never reached an NBA Finals. The 2026 offseason brought a major reset: the team traded Leonard to Toronto and retooled around Brandon Ingram, Darius Garland (acquired from Cleveland for James Harden in February 2026), and Bradley Beal under head coach Tyronn Lue.
