Data & sourcing notes (3) — conflicts flagged, not silently resolved
- Wikipedia's transactions table and a cited NBA.com report disagree on the date of the Miles Bridges-for-Grayson Allen trade (July 13 vs. June 28).
- Dorian Finney-Smith is reported as both acquired from Houston (July 7) and later sent to Atlanta (September 22) in the same offseason; roster/salary trackers checked still listed him with Charlotte for 2026-27, so his final team is uncertain.
- Tre Mann is listed as traded to Washington (August 20) but also appears on Charlotte 2026-27 roster and salary pages checked; this conflict is unresolved in sources found.

The complete story
The Charlotte Hornets began as a 1988 NBA expansion franchise under owner George Shinn, quickly becoming a league attendance leader behind stars like Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and Muggsy Bogues, before Shinn relocated the team to New Orleans in 2002 (that franchise is now the Pelicans). The NBA awarded Charlotte a new expansion team, the Bobcats, in 2004, which was renamed the Hornets in 2014 after the city reclaimed the original Hornets' name, colors, and history. The franchise has never advanced past the conference semifinals and has no Finals appearances or championships. The Hornets have played at Spectrum Center in uptown Charlotte since 2005, and their most notable rivalry is with the Miami Heat, dubbed 'expansion sisters' since both clubs joined the NBA in 1988; a Southeast Division rivalry with Detroit has also flared in recent seasons. In a franchise-altering July 2026 trade, Charlotte sent longtime franchise cornerstone LaMelo Ball to Minnesota, pivoting to a rebuild around Brandon Miller and newly acquired veterans Naz Reid and Grayson Allen.
