Brewers vs. Padres recap: The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 on Wednesday at Petco Park to close out the NLDS 3-1 and advance to the National League Championship Series. After a one-run game through five innings, Milwaukee’s bullpen shut out San Diego to clinch the series.

Garrett Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a triple, driving in a run and scoring another, while reliever Aaron Ashby worked three hitless innings for the win. Fernando Tatis Jr. homered for San Diego, which managed just three hits and struck out nine times.

Milwaukee’s bullpen slammed the door

Robert Gasser worked four innings and allowed one run on three hits. Ashby threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, Abner Uribe added a scoreless inning, and Trevor Megill earned his second postseason save with two strikeouts in the ninth.

San Diego finished with three hits and struck out nine times. Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado each had one hit. Walker Buehler held the Brewers to one run in three innings, but Robbie Ray allowed a run in the fourth inning and took the loss.

Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, setting the tone at the top of Milwaukee’s lineup and factoring directly into two of the team’s three runs.
