Diary of a Yankees Fan #10: Is Aaron Judge Criticizing the Team in Code?

Dear Diary of a Yankees fan, the team is like Peyton Place. Today it came out that Slugger Aaron Judge may be using his close friends, CC Sabathia and Anthony Rizzo, as his mouthpiece. It does not behoove him to criticize the team even more than he has. As the captain of the team, he is understated, so it makes sense that he is using others to criticize the team.

One could have a problem with Judge, the diary of a Yankees fan, because he should be trying to fire up the team. Even during the season, he does not. Exhibit 1A is the fact that Giancarlo Stanton spoke to the team last season when they were struggling. Arron Judge should be speaking out now, but he is not. Do you think he will?

Diary of a Yankees Fan #10

New York Yankees celebrate CC Sabathia. He has a podcast, maybe he reads the diary of a Yankees fan.

CC Sabathia

CC Sabathia talked on his podcast about the lack of a standard in the Yankees clubhouse. He made the point that there is nobody in the Yankees’ clubhouse who has won a World Series. That was covered in the diary of a Yankees Fan yesterday. One must wonder how he knows what the Clubhouse is like. He is not on the team. He is not the only one who has comments about the sad state of the Yankees clubhouse without ever being there,

Anthony Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo used to be the first baseman for the Yankees. He is very close with Aaron Judge. Rizzo recently ran the Chicago Marathon, and Judge was there to cheer him on. Even their dogs are close. Rizzo said on his podcast, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting a different result. Rizzo referenced, specifically, the poisonous culture inside the Yankee clubhouse. Like Sabathia, he is a former player who is not in the clubhouse. He must be getting his information from somewhere.

Does a Team Need a $300 Million Payroll to Compete?

Clearly, a team does not need the payroll of the Yankees to make the World Series. The Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees have all been eliminated from the playoffs. What remains, diary of a Yankees fan? The number 20 payroll Milwaukee Brewers, the number 30 payroll Tampa Bay Rays, and the dead-last in payroll Cleveland Guardians. The remaining teams are a nightmare for Major League Baseball. They desire to have marquee pitching matchups to boost television ratings, and would prefer high-payroll teams being in contention because it would enhance the owners’ arguments in the coming labor dispute.

A Funny Thing

The Yankees have not yet had an official post-mortem on the season. They are the last team that has been eliminated that has not spoken, after the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday announced they were going to sign former Yankee captain, Don Mattingly, to a two-year extension as manager of the team. Every past season, the Yankees have done some sort of post-mortem. It leads one to believe that conversations are going on among the Leadership. More diary of a Yankees fan fodder.

Conclusion

Diary of a Yankees fan: how do Rizzo and Sabathia, who are not currently on the team, know what is going on inside the locker room? Clearly, the team is spending an exorbitant amount of money and not getting results. It is also clear that the team needs to say someting soon. That suggests there will be more fodder to come for the diary of a Yankees fan.
