The Arizona Cardinals officially ruled out running back Jeremiyah Love for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams because of an ankle injury, the team announced Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. Love did not practice all week, and head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed the decision to reporters.
The absence marks the first game Love has missed all season. He has been managing multiple ankle issues dating back to the preseason, according to Sports Illustrated.
What The Team Said About The Jeremiyah Love Injury Week 6 Decision
“Not good enough obviously right now to go Sunday. It wouldn’t be in the best interest of him, and then we’ll reevaluate on Monday,” LaFleur said, according to NBC Sports.
The coach also addressed the specific mechanics of the injury. “When he’s putting his left foot in the ground, it’s just not right right now. And to get him to be to his best ability, it’s what’s right so he can go out and perform the way that he wants,” LaFleur said.
LaFleur added that Love is not currently considered a candidate for injured reserve, leaving open the possibility he returns as soon as next week. Safety Andrew Wingard was also ruled out for Week 6, according to Sports Illustrated.
Who Replaces Love In The Backfield
Tyler Allgeier is expected to step into an expanded role as Arizona’s lead back against the Rams. The Cardinals also plan to lean on Zonovan “Bam” Knight, and a practice squad call-up remains possible to give the team a third running back option, according to Sporting News.
The backfield shuffle comes alongside another significant change to Arizona’s offense. Marvin Harrison Jr. was traded to the Houston Texans, adding to the list of adjustments the coaching staff must manage for Sunday’s matchup, which is detailed in the Cardinals vs. Rams Week 6 preview.
Love’s Role And Production This Season
Love’s ankle has limited his usage even when he has been active. His inability to run routes cleanly kept him out of much of the passing game. In Week 5 against the Detroit Lions, Love carried 12 times for 22 yards.
That outing followed a broader scoring slump. Love posted six or fewer fantasy points in three of his last four games before being ruled out, according to Yahoo Sports.
What’s Next For Arizona
The Cardinals host the Rams on Sunday with Allgeier and Knight carrying the load in the backfield. LaFleur said the team will reevaluate Love’s ankle on Monday, which should provide the next update on his status heading into Arizona’s following game.
