Milwaukee Brewers

Abner Uribe says his availability for the Milwaukee Brewers is unlimited this postseason. Asked whether he can pitch in every postseason game, Uribe answered quickly: “Sí.”Uribe has appeared in all six Brewers postseason games, the only pitcher on Milwaukee’s staff to do so. In those outings, he has thrown six innings, allowed one unearned run, and recorded five strikeouts.

What The Team And Uribe Have Said About His Role

“I’ve been taking advantage of the days off,” Uribe said. “My mindset is I’m ready to go every day, and the way we are, the goal will be to be ready every day.” “We just go out and compete pitch by pitch. Doesn’t matter what the situation is, just compete,” he added.

Brewers closer Trevor Megill praised the approach. “He’s got a great personality. He’s a wonderful human being.A little crazy at times,” Megill said. “But that’s what makes us love him so much, just that passion and fire. It’s very easy to be drawn to a person like that whose sole purpose out here is to win games and compete.”

Manager Pat Murphy and his staff weigh matchups, availability, and how often Dodgers hitters have seen a given arm when deciding who pitches, a factor that grows more important across a seven-game series.

Who Shares The Load In Milwaukee’s Bullpen

Uribe is not working alone. In Game 2 of the NLCS, Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined to retire the final 15 Dodgers batters in order. May and Romero each handled an inning, while Uribe and Ashby combined for the last nine outs.

The bullpen’s five perfect innings were the first of their kind in playoff history. Reliever Aaron Ashby, who shares late-inning duty with Uribe, deferred to him. “I’m not going to ever fight Abner. That’s a business decision. But I would certainly try and convince him with my words to let me go in the game,” Ashby said.

Season Context: Uribe’s Numbers This October

Uribe’s biggest moment so far came in Game 2, when he recorded four outs, including an eighth-inning strikeout of Mookie Betts. That outing fit a broader pattern for Milwaukee’s relief corps, which has allowed just three runs, only one earned, across 28 2/3 innings through six postseason games.

Pitching in every game of a deep playoff run is rare. Brandon Morrow appeared in 14 of 15 games, or 93.3%, for the 2017 Dodgers, the highest percentage in a single postseason. Corey Knebel ranks second at 90%, appearing in nine of 10 games for the 2018 Brewers. Uribe has appeared in all six of Milwaukee’s postseason games.

What’s Next For Uribe And The Brewers

The Brewers lead 2-0 in the NLCS after Game 2, in which Uribe recorded four outs, including a strikeout of Mookie Betts. Game 3 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.
