The Tennessee Titans have a lot of work to do this offseason. They finished with the worst record in the NFL and will make the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Rebuilding a roster takes time, but in this league, you never know what can happen. The Titans are in the midst of a rebuild but are still trying to find top-tier talent this offseason. Reports indicate the Titans have reached a deal with four-time All-Pro punter Johnny Hekker.
Tennessee Titans Sign P Johnny Hekker
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it is a one-year, fully guaranteed deal for the NFL veteran. Tennessee Titans’ special teams coordinator John Fassel was on staff with the Rams when Johnny Hekker entered the league. Hekker was with the Rams for ten years before heading to the Carolina Panthers. He spent three seasons there and will now head to Tennessee.
Last season, Hekker had 24 punts inside the 20-yard line, which was 32.9% of his kicks. He has had a history of being one of the best special teams players in the league. From 2013 to 2018, he was named to All-Pro teams. Four times he was named first-team, including a run of three years straight. While the Tennessee Titans have plenty of question marks, they get an above-average punter on the roster.
2025 Outlook
The biggest question for the Tennessee Titans this year centers around the NFL Draft. Will the team take one of the quarterbacks or focus on other positions? Many analysts have mocked Miami QB Cam Ward to the team, but others have projected they will take a top edge rusher like Penn State’s Abdul Carter.
If they don’t take a quarterback, there is a slew of other questions. It seems unlikely the team will want Will Levis to be under center in 2025. The veteran quarterback market is shrinking by the day. As we get closer to April’s draft in Green Bay, we will likely have more of an idea of what this team is thinking. One thing is for sure: their punting should be on point this year.
