Patriots Place Romeo Doubs on IR With Shoulder Injury

Romeo Doubs landed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury suffered during the Patriots' Week 6 win over the Jets, sidelining him at least four games.

Jets vs Patriots preview

New England placed wide receiver Romeo Doubs on injured reserve with a shoulder injury sustained during Sunday’s 26-19 win over the Jets, the team announced.

Doubs suffered the injury on a 42-yard touchdown catch in the Week 6 victory. Head coach Mike Vrabel called the play “one of the huge plays of this football game.” Under the IR designation, Doubs must miss at least the next four games, with his first eligible return in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Injured Reserve Designation And What It Means

Doubs will miss New England’s games against Chicago (Thursday), Miami, Green Bay and Detroit before the Week 11 bye. No recovery timeline or details about possible surgery have been reported.

Doubs is the second major receiver addition the Patriots have placed on IR this season. A.J. Brown missed time with a high ankle sprain before returning Sunday. Mack Hollins is also on injured reserve with a calf injury, leaving the receiving corps thin.

Who Steps Up In The Receiving Corps

With Doubs out, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams are set for increased snaps alongside Brown, who has since returned from his own IR stint. Tight ends Hunter Henry and Eli Rariden are also projected to draw more targets from quarterback Drake Maye as the Patriots redistribute passing-game volume, according to Sporting News.

None of those roles have been officially confirmed as starting assignments. They reflect the likely distribution of snaps and targets based on who remains available at receiver and tight end.

Roster Move To Fill The Spot

New England signed defensive back Elliott Davison to the 53-man roster off the practice squad to fill the open spot.

What’s Next For The Patriots

Doubs’ first chance to play comes Week 12 against the Chargers. The Patriots face a short week before Thursday’s game at Chicago.
