The complete story
Carolina was awarded an expansion franchise in 1993 and began play in 1995, splitting home games between Clemson and Charlotte before Bank of America Stadium opened. The Panthers moved from the NFC West to the newly formed NFC South in 2002 and have reached two Super Bowls (2003 and 2015 seasons) without a win, including a 15-1 record in the Cam Newton MVP season of 2015. Founding owner Jerry Richardson sold the team to David Tepper in 2018 amid a workplace-conduct investigation.
