Miguel Rojas announced his retirement from baseball after the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS on Thursday night, closing out a four-year run with the franchise that included two World Series titles. Rojas, 36, made the decision public in the hours after Los Angeles was eliminated.
The Announcement
“This is it. I don’t even wanna take off my cleats right now,” Rojas said, according to Sporting News. The infielder played the 2026 season on a $5.5 million contract and had spent four seasons in Los Angeles, appearing in at least 100 games in each of them.
Rojas had suffered an injury during the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves, a factor that may have played into his decision to walk away, according to the report. The Dodgers had already ruled Rojas out for Game 4 of that series with a back injury.
Career Highlights With The Dodgers
Rojas was part of two World Series championship teams during his time in Los Angeles. His signature moment came in the 2025 World Series, when he hit a home run in the ninth inning of Game 7. The versatile infielder earned a reputation around the clubhouse and with fans for his steady presence, with Sporting News noting he was beloved by the Dodgers fanbase, manager Dave Roberts and his teammates.
Earlier in the 2026 season, Rojas had indicated he would only consider returning for another year if it meant staying with the Dodgers. That stance set the stage for Thursday’s announcement once Los Angeles’ season ended against Milwaukee.
What’s Next
The Dodgers now head into an offseason that will require infield depth decisions following Rojas’ departure. Los Angeles enters that process after a sweep in the NLCS, with roster questions already surfacing around the pitching staff following a late-series rotation shakeup. No timeline has been given for when the Dodgers will address the infield opening Rojas leaves behind.
