The Miguel Rojas injury has forced the Los Angeles Dodgers to go without their veteran infielder for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Rojas is dealing with tightness in his left lower back and hip, and manager Dave Roberts confirmed he will be unavailable off the bench.
Rojas was lifted from Tuesday’s Game 3 win after the injury flared up in the late innings. He first tweaked his back while slipping on a ground ball near the edge of the outfield grass in the fifth inning, then aggravated it further on a swing at the plate in the eighth. He did not return to the field after that.
What The Dodgers Said About Rojas’ Status
Roberts described Rojas as feeling “not great” following the Game 3 exit, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. The Dodgers list Rojas as day-to-day with a back injury on the team’s injury report, per FOX Sports. Miguel Rojas himself struck an optimistic tone after Tuesday’s game, telling reporters he believed he would be able to play in Game 4. Roberts opted to rest him instead.
The Dodgers have not discussed removing Rojas from the NLDS roster. Doing so now would make him ineligible to return for the NLCS if Los Angeles advances, a significant factor in how the team is handling his recovery.
Who Steps In At Second Base
The sources do not name a specific replacement at second base for Game 4. Mauricio Dubón has been part of the Dodgers’ infield mix this postseason and made a highlight defensive play in Game 3, robbing Freddie Freeman of extra bases with a catch in the third inning. Whether Dubón or another option gets the start at second base with Rojas sidelined was not specified in the available reporting.
What’s Next For The Dodgers
Los Angeles can close out the NLDS with a win in Game 4 against Atlanta. Rojas remains day-to-day, and no timeline for his return has been given. The next update on his status is expected to come before or during Game 4 as the Dodgers finalize their lineup against the Braves.
