The Mammoth vs Blue Jackets score finished 4-1 in Utah’s favor on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena, and three power-play goals made the difference. Nick Schmaltz scored twice as the Mammoth improved to 2-0-0.

Columbus took a tripping penalty late in the first period, and Utah made it count. Mikhail Sergachev opened the scoring on the power play at 11:55, with assists from Dylan Guenther and Clayton Keller. Schmaltz made it 2-0 at 16:31 at even strength, set up by Keller and John Marino.

How the Mammoth vs Blue Jackets score reached 4-1

Kent Johnson pulled Columbus within a goal at 1:30 of the second period, with Matthew Knies getting the assist. That was the last time the Blue Jackets scored.

Utah put the game away in the third. Guenther scored on the power play at 5:59, assisted by Logan Cooley and Sergachev. Schmaltz added another power-play goal at 14:13, with Cooley and Guenther on the assists.

The Mammoth went 3-for-4 with the man advantage. Columbus finished 0-for-2. Utah also outshot the Blue Jackets 31-18.

Schmaltz, Guenther and Keller lead the way

Guenther finished with a goal and two assists. Schmaltz’s second goal was the 500th point of his NHL career, according to career totals on NHL.com, and it gave him three goals in two games this season. Keller picked up two assists and reached 600 career points by the same count.

Sebastian Cossa stopped 17 of 18 shots in his first game for Utah, a .944 save percentage. He had appeared in one NHL game before, for Detroit in 2024-25. Jet Greaves made 27 saves on 31 shots for Columbus.

Knies’ assist on Johnson’s goal gave him four points in his first two games with the Blue Jackets.
