Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons Preview Week 6

The Chicago Bears activated cornerback Kyler Gordon from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday, clearing the way for his first appearance of the 2026 season. The Kyler Gordon PUP list activation comes after he missed every game this year while rehabbing a calf injury, and he will be available Sunday when the Bears host the Atlanta Falcons, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Gordon has not played this season while rehabbing the calf injury he suffered in the offseason.

The Terms Of Gordon’s Return

Moving Gordon off PUP is a straightforward roster transaction rather than a contract move, but it carries real weight for Chicago’s defense. Gordon spent the past three weeks in his 21-day practice window, during which NFL rules allow a PUP player to practice before a team decides whether to activate him. He was a full participant in all nine practices over that stretch, according to Yahoo Sports.

That perfect practice attendance gave the Bears the confidence to activate him in time for Sunday’s game rather than let the window expire.

What It Means For Chicago’s Secondary

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said he is encouraged by what he has seen from Gordon during his buildup. “He’s done a great job taking everything that we’ve assigned him so far. I feel good about him, whether that’s this week or next week, being able to contribute to this team and help us out, and there’s a number of ways he can do that.

But I’m encouraged with what I’ve seen so far,” Johnson said. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen echoed that sentiment, praising Gordon’s approach during the rehab process. “He’s been working extremely hard.

He’s been great around the building. He’s been doing everything we’ve asked him to do. I’ve been impressed with him,” Allen said.

Chicago is likely to bring Gordon back gradually, consistent with how this coaching staff has handled other returning players in the past. Most of his NFL snaps have come at nickel cornerback, though he has also played and practiced at outside corner and safety. That versatility could give the Bears a lift on defense as the season moves forward, provided he stays healthy.

Other Roster Moves And What’s Next

Chicago made a corresponding move on the defensive line, placing Dayo Odeyingbo on injured reserve with a quad injury. Odeyingbo will miss at least four games. He ranks second on the team with three sacks, third with three tackles for loss and leads Bears defensive linemen with two batted passes this season.

Gordon and the Bears are set for their matchup against the Falcons on Sunday. Chicago’s defense will look to integrate its newly activated cornerback while adjusting to life without Odeyingbo up front for at least a month. More on the matchup can be found in the Bears vs Falcons Week 6 preview,
