The Jacksonville Jaguars are working toward playing their entire Jaguars 2028 home schedule in Jacksonville, a shift that would come as EverBank Stadium reopens following a $1.4 billion renovation, according to The Associated Press. The plan would mark a departure from more than a decade of annual trips to London, which continue this weekend when Jacksonville faces the Houston Texans in London.
Team president Mark Lamping confirmed the goal during a wide-ranging discussion of the franchise’s construction timeline and international scheduling obligations, per ESPN. “I think that would be a natural to do,” Lamping said of keeping every 2028 home game in Jacksonville.
Stadium Renovation Timeline
EverBank Stadium is in the middle of a $1.4 billion overhaul, with the venue scheduled to be ready for the 2028 season. Construction already began during the 2026 season, with the stadium operating at reduced capacity while work continues.
The renovation forces the Jaguars to play a reduced home slate in Jacksonville in 2027. Some of those home games will shift to Camping World Stadium in Orlando, while the team has an agreement with the city of Jacksonville that allows for up to three international home games that year.
2027 International Plans Scaled Back
Despite the option for three international home games in 2027, Lamping does not expect the team to use it. “But the likelihood of three games in 2027, I think it’s remote,” he said, according to ESPN. Instead, the Jaguars are set to play one NFL-mandated international game abroad in 2027, a requirement that currently applies to every team once every four years.
Lamping said the league, not the Jaguars, will determine the location. “The league tells us where that game is going to be played,” he said, adding that he hopes it lands in London.
Jacksonville’s London History
The Jaguars have been among the NFL’s most frequent international hosts since 2013, missing only the pandemic-altered 2020 season. The team has played 15 games in London in that span, 11 at Wembley Stadium and four at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sunday’s matchup against Houston marks the franchise’s 16th game in London.
Jacksonville took over full operational control of its annual Wembley game in 2022 under a three-year agreement with the NFL. Ahead of that season, team officials projected ticket revenue from the 90,000-seat Wembley crowd would run 40% higher than a comparable home date at EverBank Stadium. The Jaguars doubled up in London in 2023 and 2024, playing a home game at Wembley and a separate road game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in back-to-back weeks each year.
In 2025, the team played a single London game, a home contest against the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley. The franchise also moved an international game originally slated for 2030 up to the 2026 season as part of a separate agreement with the league, according to ESPN.
What Could Complicate The 2028 Plan
Lamping acknowledged the Jaguars do not fully control whether 2028 unfolds as hoped, since the league’s broader scheduling rules could shift. “We don’t have total control over that because we don’t know what’s going to happen at the league level,” Lamping said. “Just because right now every team gives up a home game once every four years, that could change, particularly if there’s an advancement to an 18-game schedule.” The AP also reported that the economic incentive for Jacksonville to keep staging an annual game at Wembley has been decreasing, a factor that could influence how the franchise approaches its international commitments once the stadium renovation is complete.
What’s Next
The Jaguars play the Texans in London on Sunday, their 16th all-time game in the city. Construction on EverBank Stadium continues through the 2027 season, with the Jaguars splitting home games between Jacksonville, Orlando and at least one international site before the venue’s targeted 2028 reopening.
