The No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers beat the Michigan Wolverines 13-6 in overtime on Saturday at Michigan Stadium, scoring the only points of the extra period on a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Josh Hoover. Michigan kicker Trey Butkowski tied it 6-6 with a 26-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter.

Indiana improved to 7-1 with the win, while Michigan fell to 4-3. The Hoosiers never found the end zone in regulation, leaning on kicker Nico Radicic for field goals of 22 and 34 yards in the first half. Michigan’s lone scoring in regulation came on two Butkowski field goals, one in the third quarter and the game-tying kick on the final play of the fourth. Hoover’s overtime score, set up with his own legs after an 8-of-18 passing day for 81 yards, decided it.

Takeaways From Indiana’s Win Over Michigan

Indiana’s ground game carried the offense

The Hoosiers ran for 131 yards on 35 carries while Hoover completed less than half his passes. Turbo Richard led the way with 19 carries for 68 yards, and Lee Beebe Jr. added 56 yards on 12 totes. The rushing attack set up the overtime winner, with Hoover’s four-yard scramble capping a possession-less overtime period that needed just one offensive snap to decide.

Michigan’s offense stalled in the red zone

The Wolverines outgained Indiana 224-212 in total yards and held the ball for 33 minutes 44 seconds to Indiana’s 26:16, but converted touchdowns on none of their trips inside Indiana territory. Michigan went 2-of-4 on field goals and 6-of-20 on third down, settling for Butkowski kicks instead of touchdowns on multiple series.

Turnovers evened out but mattered at the margins

Both teams turned the ball over, with Indiana losing one on Hoover’s interception and Michigan giving it away twice, an interception by quarterback Tommy Carr and a lost fumble. Indiana safety Amare Ferrell picked off Carr and returned it 19 yards, while Michigan’s Zeke Berry intercepted Hoover for a 37-yard return. Neither turnover led directly to points, but Indiana’s defense forced the Michigan miscues at critical moments to keep the Wolverines off the board in the second half until the final field goal.

Player Of The Game: Josh Hoover

Hoover finished 8 of 18 passing for 81 yards and an interception through the air, but his legs delivered the win. He carried four times for seven yards, including the decisive four-yard touchdown run in overtime that produced the extra point from Radicic and the final 13-6 margin.

Indiana Vs Michigan By The Numbers

Michigan held the edge in total yards, 224 to 212, and in time of possession by more than seven minutes. Indiana’s defense more than made up the difference, led by Rolijah Hardy’s nine tackles and two sacks, part of a unit that limited Michigan to 1.4 yards per rush on 42 carries. Michigan’s Chris Bracy topped all players with 13 tackles. Indiana committed six penalties for 50 yards compared to Michigan’s one penalty for 15 yards, yet the Hoosiers won the turnover battle, two giveaways for Michigan against one for Indiana.
