Frank Warren’s Vision: Building a Mega Fight for Dubois and Wardley

Eri Matsuda

Promoter Frank Warren has laid the foundation for a huge showdown between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley at Wembley Stadium, hoping to build the clash into a ‘mega fight.’ Even though Dubois, the IBF world heavyweight champion, won’t face Wardley in his subsequent fight, Frank Warren is acting ahead, fashioning for what he envisions to be a monumental clash.

Dubois and Wardley Make Big Statements

Both fighters have shown prowess in recent fights, although Daniel Dubois recently knocked out Joshua at Wembley. Wardley recently defended his British title with a first-round knockout over Frazer Clarke. This brilliant performance placed Wardley in the unenviable position of being within the top fifteen of the IBF rankings. However, an immediate world title fight with Dubois is not yet in Wardley’s future.

The Opponents for the Future Included in the Mix for Daniel Dubois

While planning the next fight against Daniel Dubois, some potential opponents, including Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker, may face him. They both have good records and may be able to put up stiff resistance for Dubois in his defense of the IBF title in February. Following a KO win against Joe Joyce and an inside-the-distance triumph over Deontay Wilder, Zhang has asked for it, with his manager, Terry Lane, also indicating interest in the matchup against Dubois. On the other hand, Parker, who has a WBO Interim title, has staged his career after being defeated by Joyce and has recent victories against Wilder and Zhang, which makes a fight with Dubois very interesting.

While becoming a fighter of the year is a perfect goal for a fight against Daniel Dubois, Frank Warren sees a greater talent in Wardley. As per Frank Warren, Wardley’s next fight will be against another fighter ranked within the top ten to make a statement and prove his worth. His victories in these bouts will establish a platform upon which to build up a fight with Dubois, and what a fight that would be.

Final Thoughts

Frank Warren also sees the Dubois vs. Wardley fight as potential to pack Wembley Stadium because the masses are fascinated by two heavyweight punchers. Now, his attention is on promoting the two fighters to ensure that each of them remains marketable and ready for the big event each time it arises.

While she did not say as much, Frank Warren suggested that the decision regarding Dubois’ next fight will be made shortly, with the IBF title defense being slated for February. As Wardley continues his climb up the totem pole and Daniel Dubois continues building an impressive resume of loved defeats, it’s not hard for fans of the punching sports to look forward to what may become one of the best Heavyweight rematches in many a year.
