CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel Alameda died Tuesday at 8 a.m., the club announced, a day after he suffered cardiac arrest from a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during their LaLiga 2 match. De Miguel was 30.
The Tenerife vs Andorra collision happened in the closing minutes of Monday’s match at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, when Owono struck de Miguel in the chest. The match was tied 2-2 and was suspended in the 108th minute as medical staff attended to the forward on the pitch.
The Main Development
De Miguel was carried off on a stretcher and intubated at the scene, according to Yahoo Sports. He remained in cardiorespiratory arrest for nearly 20 minutes and received cardiopulmonary resuscitation during the ambulance ride to the hospital, where he died the following morning.
Tenerife confirmed his death in a statement released Tuesday. “Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we announce the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda this Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.,” the club said, according to ESPN.
The club added, “There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this profound sense of sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife football community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events.”
What It Means
The death halts the LaLiga 2 match between Tenerife and Andorra indefinitely, with no resumption date confirmed. FC Andorra, whose goalkeeper was involved in the collision, sent what ESPN described as sincere condolences to de Miguel’s family, teammates and the Tenerife organization.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas called the loss irreparable and expressed deep sadness, according to ESPN. Barcelona also issued a statement expressing deep regret over the news, while CD Castellón, de Miguel’s former club, paid tribute to the forward.
Background On De Miguel
De Miguel, a Madrid native, made his professional debut in 2015 with Leganés B before moving through several lower-division Spanish clubs. He joined Tenerife last year and had become a regular contributor to the squad’s attack in LaLiga 2, Spain’s second tier.
Wider Response Across Spanish Football
The Spanish Football Federation postponed all Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches scheduled for Tuesday as a mark of respect. Espanyol also postponed the planned presentation of new signing Eder Sarabia out of respect for de Miguel and his family.
What’s Next
No official word has been given on when or whether the suspended Tenerife-Andorra match will resume, nor has any timeline been set for a return to competition for either club. LaLiga has not announced further details on how the league will mark de Miguel’s death in upcoming fixtures.
