Emerson Jones survives 2 tiebreaks to top Okamura

Emerson Jones beat Kyoka Okamura 7-6, 7-6 on Oct. 2 in the quarterfinals of the Jingshan Tennis Open, a WTA 125 event in China, according to match data from Sofascore.

The third-seeded Australian won both sets in tiebreaks to advance to the semifinals on hard courts.

Jones, 18, has now beaten Okamura, Zhu and Kaji on her way to the final four, according to Tennis Majors. Okamura, from Japan, was eliminated after forcing two tiebreaks.

Jones is no stranger to big stages. Earlier this year she lost to Iga Swiatek at the French Open, and she was the top seed in the 2024 US Open junior girls’ singles, as we reported.

What’s next

Jones is scheduled to face sixth-seeded Alexandra Shubladze in the semifinals on Oct. 3. The tournament runs through Oct. 4; full draws and results are on the WTA tournament page.
