College World Series June 17 Recap: The Finals Are Set
The College World Series is set and will take place this weekend. Two games were held yesterday, and the results were both surprising and a little disappointing. Oklahoma eliminated the third-ranked Georgia. North Carolina eliminated sentimental favorite West Virginia. North Carolina is ranked number five, so there is one ranked team left.
Both Oklahoma and North Carolina have strong pitching and deep, talented batting lineups. So, this is a good baseball. However, the top-ranked team remaining, Georgia, with the best player, Darin Jackson, will not be in the final. Neither will West Virginia, with its great tradition of singing, ‘Take me home, Country Roads.’ Did you think these two teams would make the College World Series final?
College World Series Finals Set June 18 Summary

There were two games in the College World Series yesterday. The de facto semifinals are over, and the finals are set. Oklahoma will take on North Carolina in a best-of-three-game series starting Saturday. Here is what happened in the two games yesterday.
Oklahoma eliminated third seeded Georgia by winning 11-4. Darin Jackson was 2 for 5 with a double. Though the Bulldog pitching was largely ineffective. Thet used six pitchers. The forst two gave up four runs. The last four pitched less than an inning pitched. Oklahoma was leading 4-0 after four innings. Georgia came back and scored a run in the fifth inning, and two in the sixth. However, Oklahoma scored runs in the sixth and seventh. They scored three runs in the eighth inning and two moe runs in the ninth inning.
Oklahoma beat Georgia 4-3 on June 15. In this game, Oklahoma hit five home runs and got 15 hits. This result was surprising because Georgia was so highly ranked. However, it is a truism in baseball, if a team does not pitch well, or play good defense, they will not win the game and it does not matter how highly-ranked they are.
In the other game yesterday, North Carolina eliminated the darling of the tournament in West Virginia. The score of this game was 12-7. This game was really not that close. North Carolina led 8-1 after four innings. To their credit, West Virginia scored five runs in the seventh inning. The problem was North Carolina scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Mountaineers tacked on one run in the eighth inning.
This loss in the College World Series yesterday, eliminated West Virginia and it was not that close. If a team falls to far behind, like 8-1 after four innings, it is hard to dig out of that hole. West Virginia too was betrayed by its pitching. They use five pitchers in the game, the first three gave up runs.
These two wins set up a final College World Series three-game series Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (if necessary). this should be a good series, these teams are excellent. They are the last two teams standing of 48 who were in the College World Series. Those games started with the Regionals, then came the Superregionals, then 8 teams made the final tournament in Omaha.
