The College World Series in Omaha is continuing to move forward. On June 15, another team was eliminated. Texas eliminated Alabama in a blowout. This action sets up two elimination games, including one featuring the high-powered Georgia Bulldogs.

The games yesterday were big news around the country. There was a very close game, featuring the Branch brothers, and one blowout. It is a good thing the weather in Omaha is sunny and warm. Are you watching the College World Series?

The College World Series featured two games yesterday, and there will be two more tomorrow. Yesterday, Texas eliminated (and destroyed) Alabama, 14-2. In the win, which was never that close, Texas was leading 7-1 after just two innings. There was news in the game: Texas shortstop Adrian Rodriguez was 5-5 in the game, and he hit for the cycle. That was only the third cycle in CWS history.

In a bit of a surprise in the other College World Series game yesterday, Oklahoma defeated number 3 Georgia, 4-3. The Bulldogs were unable to win despite a star-studded roster that includes the consensus top college baseball player in the nation, Darrin Jackson. The game was also noteworthy because the brothers played in it. Kolby Branch (Georgia) and Kyle Branch (Oklahoma) are their names. Kolby is a senior, and Kyle is a Sophomore. Georgia scored runs in the fifth and the eigth innings, but Jackson, who hit a home run in the eighth inning, flew out.

This is amazing, so it is worth further comment. Their father was interviewed and said they were too cheap to buy 60 jerseys, so they bought 30 and cut them in half. He was in the stands, wearing a half Georgia, Jesey, and a half Oklahoma jersey. This event is creating great memories for the Branch family; the father was obviously proud.

With the loss, Georgia goes to the losers’ bracket and plays next tonight at 8 pm, against Texas, whom they beat on Saturday. The loser of this game between the number 3 and number 6 ranked teams will go home, so a ranked team will be eliminated in this game. It should be interesting to see if the talented Georgia roster can stave off elimination. It will also be interesting to see how Adrian Rodriguez does for the Longhorns. He hit for the cycle in the game on Monday.

The other game today takes place at 2 pm between Troy and West Virginia. This is an elimination game. Both teams in this game have some appeal. Troy is the Cinderella of this tournament. West Virginia has a great home tradition of singing John Denver’s ‘Take me home, Country Roads’ after home wins. It will be sad to see one of these teams get eliminated. West Virginia has the more talented roster.

There will be what amounts to semifinal games on Wednesday. They are both double-elimination games. North Carolina is already through; there will be more teams through to the semifinals after the games today.

Conclusion

It is important to realize that most of the players will not get drafted and will play their last baseball games in Omaha. That is why, as it is clear, the players in each game are trying their hardest. This fact just adds to the must-see nature of the College World Series. Baseball is great, and several players for most teams will get drafted by the Major Leagues and might become stars. This is especially the case with the Georgia catcher, Darin Jackson, who might be the number one overall pick in the draft.
