The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense had no problems moving the ball last year. Joe Burrow proved himself worthy of his massive contract, and Ja’Marr Chase won the triple crown in receiving last year. However, any good offense has multiple weapons all over the roster. The Bengals are looking for a way to retain Tee Higgins, but right now, it seems unlikely. However, the team will retain one of Burrow’s favorite targets from last season. Tight end Mike Gesicki has re-signed with the team, agreeing to the deal worth $25 million.
Cincinnati Bengals Re-Sign TE Mike Gesicki
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it is a three-year, $25.5 million deal for Mike Gesicki. The deal is reported to have $12 million in the first year. After five years in Miami and one in New England, the receiving tight end signed with the Cincinnati Bengals last offseason. He quickly became a favorite target of Burrow, especially in the red zone. He caught 65 passes for 665 yards and two touchdowns, his most receiving yards in a season since 2021.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ front office has been busy this offseason. They placed the franchise tag on Higgins for the second straight year, and all indications are that they are looking to trade him. While they would love to keep him, Chase is in line for a record-setting contract, especially after the season he just had. There are so many contracts to deal with that the team has given star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade.
2025 Outlook
I have no clue what the Cincinnati Bengals will look like next year at this point. It helps that Burrow is under contract. Having the quarterback position figured out is essential for any team. However, beyond that, there are so many questions. The defense was abysmal last year, and they will likely lose their best player. Offensively, the Ja’Marr Chase situation might get sticky, though many around the league believe a deal will eventually get done.
The signing of Gesicki might signal that the team is ready to move on from Higgins. Gesicki could become the second target, and hopefully, some of their young receivers will step up and fill the void. This is an important offseason for the Bengals. Things should get interesting over the next few weeks. The team could be involved in multiple trades, potentially netting premium draft capital. The Bengals could look very different next year, and hopefully, the combination of Burrow and Chase will continue to dominate the league.
