The Baltimore Ravens entered the 2025 season with Super Bowl aspirations, but as they sit with a 6-7 record, questions are swirling around the team’s performance and the engagement level of their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson. Recent commentary from prominent sports analysts has intensified the scrutiny, suggesting that the two-time MVP may be “checked out” amid a season plagued by injuries and inconsistency.

Nick Wright Questions Baltimore Ravens Star

The criticism reached a new level when Fox Sports host Nick Wright questioned Jackson’s investment in the current season. During an appearance on “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” Wright pointed to a perceived disconnect between Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh, as well as the quarterback’s on-field performance since returning from a hamstring injury.

“I think Lamar is over all of it and he’s checked out and he’s ready for a new regime,” Wright stated, verbalizing a concern that has been growing among observers. This followed an earlier incident where the Ravens were fined $100,000 for violating the NFL’s injury report policy regarding Jackson, which fueled speculation about a communication breakdown between the star player and the coaching staff.

A Season of Struggles and Injuries

Jackson’s performance this year has been a far cry from the electrifying play that earned him a record-setting five-year, $260 million contract extension. After missing three games with a hamstring injury, he has also been listed on recent practice reports with ankle and toe ailments. The on-field product has suffered, and Jackson is on pace for career lows in several statistical categories since becoming the full-time starter.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe recently described the quarterback’s current form as the “worst version” of himself. This sharp decline has coincided with the team’s slide. After starting the season 1-5, the Ravens now find themselves on the outside of the playoff picture following two straight divisional losses. While injuries have certainly played a significant role in the team’s disappointing record, the critique from analysts suggests the issues may run deeper than just physical health.

Broader Implications for the Ravens

The narrative that Jackson may be “checked out” raises serious questions about the team’s leadership and future direction. For a player widely regarded as the heart and soul of the franchise, any perceived lack of investment is a major cause for concern. As the Ravens fight to salvage their season, the pressure is mounting not only on Jackson to elevate his play but also on the entire organization to address the issues that have turned a Super Bowl favorite into a team battling for relevance.
