Titans vs. Ravens preview: Henry’s ultimate big test at 0-3
Derrick Henry will face his former team Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) host the winless Tennessee Titans (0-3). This Titans vs. Ravens preview covers the storylines and numbers behind a reunion that has been circled since Henry left Tennessee after the 2023 season.
Titans vs. Ravens preview: game information
For this Titans vs. Ravens preview, kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 4, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. CBS will carry the game, according to the Titans’ official game preview.
What does Derrick Henry’s return mean for the Ravens?
Henry joined Baltimore as a free agent in 2024. He has rushed for more than 300 yards and six touchdowns this season, WSMV reported, including two scores in a Week 3 win over Dallas.
Tennessee has gone 6-31 since he left, according to an Associated Press report on CBS Sports. Henry also ran for 195 yards in a playoff win over Baltimore while with the Titans.
“They got a whole different thing going now,” Henry said. “Going to be a crazy moment to be playing against the team that I came in the league playing for. But I’m not trying to make too much of it.”
Can the Ravens snap their home losing streak?
Baltimore has lost four straight home games dating to last season. Safety Kyle Hamilton said the team has to give its fans reasons to celebrate, the AP reported.
The Ravens beat Dallas 34-31 in Brazil last week. Receiver Zay Flowers leads the NFL at 23.4 yards per catch, and all 10 of his receptions have gone for first downs. The AP also reported that Baltimore has already lost its top three center options. For more on the line, see our report on Ravens center Jovaughn Gwyn’s injury.
How can the Titans slow Henry and the Ravens?
The key question in this Titans vs. Ravens preview is whether Tennessee can stop the run. Coach Robert Saleh acknowledged the challenge. “It’s four guys for six gaps and an elite runner,” he said. “But it’s always a challenge.”
Rookie linebacker Anthony Hill leads the NFL with 34 tackles. Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, a former teammate of Henry’s, said “nothing changes with Derrick” and told reporters the answer is to get all 11 defenders to the ball. Simmons had a career-high 10 tackles and a sack in Week 3, per the Titans.
Quarterback Cam Ward went 23 of 36 for 181 yards and a touchdown in Week 3, and guard Fernando Carmona Jr. is on injured reserve.
