Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts Week 6 Preview

The Tennessee Titans beat the Colts 26-20 on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, scoring 6 points in the third quarter and 20 in the fourth, including a blocked-punt touchdown in the final 30 minutes. Joey Slye made all four of his field goal attempts, including two in the final 2:03, to lift Tennessee to 1-5.

The Titans trailed 13-0 at halftime. Tennessee outscored the Colts 26-7 over the final 30 minutes on a Cam Ward touchdown pass, a blocked-punt score and four Joey Slye field goals. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown for Indianapolis, but three Colts turnovers proved costly and dropped the team to 2-4.

Takeaways From Titans’ Win Over Colts

Special teams swung the game

With the score tied 13-13 early in the fourth quarter, Tennessee blocked a Rigoberto Sanchez punt and Oluwafemi Oladejo returned it 14 yards for a touchdown, credited to Julius Chestnut on the block. The play put the Titans ahead 20-13 and proved decisive in a game Indianapolis led for more than three quarters.

Joey Slye delivered in the clutch

Slye went 4-for-4 on field goals, including a 56-yarder in the third quarter and a 49-yarder and a 44-yarder in the final two minutes of the fourth. His 44-yard kick with 43 seconds left provided the final margin after Indianapolis had tied the game at 20-20 on a Jonathan Taylor rushing touchdown.

Colts’ turnovers undercut a big yardage edge

Indianapolis outgained Tennessee 399-186 in total yards and converted 7 of 15 third downs compared to Tennessee’s 3 of 10, but three turnovers, including two Daniel Jones interceptions and a Taylor fumble, kept the Titans in the game. Tennessee’s defense also sacked Jones six times for 35 yards lost.

Player Of The Game: Joey Slye

Slye finished 4-for-4 on field goals with a long of 56 yards and added two extra points for 14 total points, the most of any player in the game. His kicks accounted for 20 of Tennessee’s 26 points.

Titans Vs. Colts By The Numbers

Indianapolis held a significant edge in total offense, piling up 399 yards to Tennessee’s 186, a gap of 213 yards. The Colts also ran 78 plays to the Titans’ 45 and out-rushed Tennessee 165-84. Despite those advantages, Indianapolis lost the turnover battle 3-1 and went just 2-for-4 in the red zone compared to Tennessee’s 1-for-2. Cam Ward completed 11 of 22 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown with one interception, while Daniel Jones went 22-for-42 for 269 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions behind a line that allowed six sacks.
