All-time great golfer Tiger Woods announced the death of his mother Kutilda Wodds in a statement he posted on X Tuesday. The cause of death for Kutilda was not announced and her exact age is unknown at the time of publication.
Part of the statement Tiger Woods posted on X said, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable…She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible…”
Mrs. Woods attended last week’s TGL matchup featuring her son’s Jupiter Links GC. It led to a touching moment between mother and son in their final public interaction. When seeing his mother in the stands, Tiger said, “Hey Mom. Not gonna suck tonight.” He lived up to that as he helped Jupiter Links defeat Boston Commons. How will Kutilda Woods be remembered?
Kutilda Woods Played a Crucial Role In Son’s Golf Success

Tiger is one of the best golfers in history, and has spoken at length about the contributions of both of his parents in that success. While Tiger’s father, Earl, was more forward-facing than Kutilda, she also played an integral role in the story of a sports icon. When Tiger was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, he sung the praises of his mother.
He said that while he and his father traveled to golf tournaments, Mrs. Woods stayed home and worked so her son could realize his dream. Kutilda was not seen as much in galleries recently as her health reportedly worsened, but her impact on Tiger’s life and golf career cannot be understated.
Final Thoughts
It is unclear when we will see Tiger tee it up next. He has started his season at the Genesis Invitational in recent years, but this family tragedy may put those plans in limbo. As this tournament benefits his foundation, Tiger Woods will almost assuredly be in attendance at the tournament from February 13-16. It is unknown if he will be in California as just the tournament host or as the host and competitor.
Kutilda played a humungous role in the development of one of America’s biggest sports icons. Her impact on Tiger Woods’ life was essential. He said as much over the past few decades.
