The Houston Texans ruled out running back David Montgomery (groin) and safety Jalen Pitre (shoulder) for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London. Montgomery is out with a groin injury and Pitre is out with a shoulder injury, both suffered during Houston’s 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans last week.
Montgomery and Pitre had started every game this season before their injuries in Houston’s 26-3 win over Tennessee last week.
Texans Injury Designations For Montgomery And Pitre
ESPN reported Montgomery and Pitre are officially out for the London game, not questionable or doubtful. Both injuries trace back to the same contest against Tennessee, a game Houston won convincingly but not without cost at running back and safety.
No return timeline has been given for either player beyond this week’s game, and the Texans have not released further detail on severity.
Who Replaces Montgomery And Pitre
Woody Marks, a second-year running back, is expected to take over as Houston’s lead back with Montgomery sidelined. Marks is averaging 3.5 yards per carry this season with 149 yards rushing and two touchdowns, numbers that already outpace Montgomery’s production through five games.
At safety, rookie Kamari Ramsey is likely to step into Pitre’s spot. Ramsey’s increased role will mark a notable step up in responsibility for the first-year defender against a Jaguars team that has gone 4-1 this season.
Montgomery’s Season Before The Injury
Montgomery, acquired by Houston from the Detroit Lions over the offseason, had struggled to find consistent traction before getting hurt. He finished with 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 52 carries through five games, an average of 2.7 yards per carry. He also caught seven passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Both of Montgomery’s touchdowns came in Week 1. Since then, he has not reached 50 total yards in any game.
What’s Next For Houston
The Texans (1-4) play Jacksonville (4-1) on Sunday in London. Marks and Ramsey will be in expanded roles as Houston looks to build off its win over Tennessee.
