The Draft Lottery was one of those shockers of the year, with the Top 4 picks including the Spurs leaping the Top 2, earning the second overall pick in the 2025 Draft. The Spurs had a 26.3% chance of reaching the Top 4. San Antonio might parlay this pick into Giannis Antetokounmpo if he becomes available, or grab another young wing player to go along with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. Either way, this is a win for the San Antonio Spurs in Chicago.
San Antonio Spurs Needs and Prospects that Fit their Needs
San Antonio needs another wing player to go alongside the Fox and Wemby duo. They’re are really good wing prospects in this draft, including Rutgers wing Ace Bailey, Duke’s Kon Knueppel, Texas’s Tre Johnson, etc. But the most likely option might already be in the league, as the Giannis Antetokounmpo news that shocked the NBA might’ve benefited the Spurs perfectly on Monday night. So let’s look at that likely outcome.
The Giannis Antetokounmpo Aspect of this Result
San Antonio vaulted right to the front of the teams with the most assets to get Giannis Antetokounmpo with their lottery luck on Monday Night. Now they are the Favorite to grab Giannis if he decides to leave the Bucks this summer. It’ll be interesting to see the timing of this situation next month and what El Jefe Greg Popovich is going to do as President. This should be a fun summer for Spurs fans.
Final Thoughts
Monday Night’s draft lottery was a huge win for the Spurs as they now have multiple options to work through with this No.2 Draft Pick. This will be an interesting summer now to see how the five-time NBA champion Popovich operates this roster back into a championship contender right away. June 25th is going to change the Spurs franchise forever again. Total Apex Sports has more NBA Draft Coverage over the next month.
