The Senators vs Maple Leafs score ended 3-2 in Ottawa’s favor on Saturday at Scotiabank Arena. Stephen Halliday scored the winner at 9:46 of the third period, and Linus Ullmark made 27 saves in the Senators’ season opener.
Thomas Chabot, playing his first game as Ottawa’s captain, had a goal and an assist. Toronto fell to 1-2-0.
How the Senators vs Maple Leafs score was decided
Chabot opened the scoring at 18:52 of the first period, with assists from Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto. Toronto answered in the second. Auston Matthews tipped in a Morgan Rielly shot 33 seconds into the period, and Kirill Marchenko put the Maple Leafs ahead 2-1 at 7:06.
Michael Amadio tied it for Ottawa at 12:40, with Tim Stutzle getting the assist. That left it 2-2 heading to the third.
Halliday’s winner
Halliday broke the tie at 9:46 of the third with help from Fabian Zetterlund and Giroux. Ullmark stopped 27 of 29 shots. Toronto’s Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves on 29 shots.
Giroux finished with two assists. According to NHL.com, Ottawa coach Travis Green said he loved the team’s third period, calling it a real good one on the road.

What the Senators vs Maple Leafs score means
Ottawa was the last NHL team to open its season, and it starts 1-0-0. Toronto has lost two straight after opening with a 2-1 win over the Islanders, which you can read about in our Maple Leafs vs Islanders recap. Each of the Leafs’ first three games has been decided by one goal.
