The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 112-111 in a thriller at the Frost Bank Center on Wednesday night. Victor Wembanyama had a historic night, leading the Spurs with 52 points, 24 rebounds, and two assists. San Antonio earned its sixth straight win and improved to 6-2.

Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks with 29 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The short-handed Mavs fell to 4-4 and lost their second straight game.

The last time these two teams met on Saturday, Oct. 24, San Antonio defeated Dallas 122-106 at the American Airlines Center. The Spurs overcame a 14-point deficit in the third quarter, closed with a 17-5 run in the fourth quarter, and outscored the Mavericks 30-17. The Mavs scored 46 points in the first half, a franchise-high since the 1997-98 NBA season.

In Case You Missed It
The San Antonio Spurs routed the Utah Jazz 119-97 at the Frost Bank Center on Monday. Dylan Harper led the Spurs with 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. Seven of the Spurs’ players scored in double figures as the team held an opponent under 100 points for the first time this season.

Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 22 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Markkanen’s 22 points were his first game of the season with over 47% field goal shooting. Markkanen had a solid stat line after scoring just 13 points against the Portland Trail Blazers upon returning from a right wrist sprain on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Dallas Mavericks dropped a 115-100 decision to the Sacramento Kings at the American Airlines Center on Monday. Daniel Gafford led the Mavericks with 20 points and seven rebounds. Walter Clayton Jr. also scored 20 points, to go with one rebound and two assists.

Darius Acuff Jr. led the Kings with 25 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Acuff’s all-around effort, including a late three-pointer, sparked early NBA Rookie of the Year talks. The Kings’ strong bench helped give the team a much-needed morale boost.

San Antonio Spurs Hold Off Dallas Mavericks
The San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks matchup was an action-packed game for the Spurs, with the Mavericks’ overall depth and health being major factors. The Spurs’ home-court advantage helped build momentum, while the Mavs’ determination to bounce back proved that they won’t back down.

The Spurs’ starting lineup featured De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs sported their silver ABA-road jerseys on Classic Night.

The Mavericks’ starting lineup presented Kyrie Irving, Zaccharie Risacher, Cooper Flagg, PJ Washington, and Daniel Gafford. Risacher made his second start of the 2026-27 NBA season. He previously recorded 11 points and two blocks in 32 minutes of play on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Mavericks trailed early in the first quarter but picked up the pace to keep the game close. However, Dallas’ defensive rebounding overpowered the tight score that signaled a potential comeback. The Spurs took a 32-26 lead after the first.

Both teams started the second quarter strong. The Mavs’ offense found its rhythm, but the Spurs’ defense held off the Mavs. The Spurs brought a 68-51 lead into halftime. Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama became the first player in the play-by-play data era to have 25+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 5+ blocks in a single half.

The Mavs crept up the Spurs in the third quarter. Kyrie Irving did a great job at managing the ball. The Spurs’ defense began to lose momentum. The Spurs held on for a 90-80 lead after three quarters.

The Mavs came back from a 19-point deficit to pull within two, 94-92, in the fourth quarter. Naji Marshall had the Mavs’ last eight points at the time. The Spurs’ struggle to shoot three-pointers showed, as the Mavs’ short-lived lead provided a glimmer of hope. But the Spurs survived a late scare to ultimately win.

Next Steps
The San Antonio Spurs will embark on a four-game road trip, starting with the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific and ending with the Utah Jazz on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 3:00 p.m. Mountain. The Spurs can earn up to four wins if they rely on field goal and three-point shot efficiency, provide rim protection, and control the ball.

The Dallas Mavericks will open a three-game homestand, starting with an NBA Cup Group Stage game with the Utah Jazz on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. Central and ending with the Indiana Pacers on Monday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. Central. The Mavs can earn two wins if they push the pace early, outperform their opponents’ star players, and maintain defensive intensity.
