Illinois piled up 120 rushing yards on 27 carries (4.4 yards per carry) to Purdue’s 90 yards on 33 attempts (2.7 per carry), but Purdue’s passing attack produced 9.4 yards per attempt compared to 6.1 for Illinois. The Boilermakers also held a decisive edge in first downs allowed on balance, converting 19 first downs to Illinois’ 26, yet Purdue controlled possession for 31:33 compared to 28:27 for Illinois.
