Panthers Outlook

Carolina’s offense ranks top-five in the NFL in points, total yards and passing yards per game, according to CBS Sports. Bryce Young has completed 101 of 162 passes for 1,268 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions, posting a 99.4 passer rating through four games. Chuba Hubbard has carried 61 times for 306 yards and three scores, while Tetairoa McMillan leads the receiving corps with 26 catches for 385 yards and two touchdowns.

The Panthers are projected to get wideout Jalen Coker back after the bye, adding depth to a passing attack that already ranks among the league’s most efficient. Carolina also holds a rest advantage, having been off in Week 5 while Philadelphia played in London the week before. Tight end Darren Waller (toe) and tight end Tommy Tremble (ribs) are listed as questionable, while right tackle Taylor Moton (illness) is out.

Eagles Outlook

Philadelphia’s offense ranks in the bottom five of the league in points per game, yards per game and passing yards per game entering Week 6, according to CBS Sports. The bigger issue is at quarterback. Jalen Hurts was ruled out after a follow-up ultrasound Wednesday night revealed movement in a superficial blood clot in his leg, ESPN reported. Hurts had been cleared to play in London after the clot was discovered the Saturday before, following a calf injury suffered when he was cleated during the Rams game on Oct. 4.

Tanner McKee is projected to start in Hurts’ place, according to ESPN. Running back Saquon Barkley is questionable with a hamstring injury after managing just 182 yards on 36 carries this season. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks are both questionable with hamstring issues, and running back Will Shipley is doubtful with plantar fasciitis. Wicks has been Philadelphia’s leading receiver with 17 catches for 260 yards and a touchdown.

Key Matchup

Carolina’s offense, averaging 421.5 total yards per game, faces an Eagles defense that has allowed opponents to rack up similar production while Philadelphia’s own offense has stalled at 278.2 yards per game. With McKee making his first career start in place of Hurts and several Eagles skill players banged up, Philadelphia’s offensive line and whatever receivers are available will need to protect and produce against a Panthers defense that has forced seven takeaways in four games, tied to a plus-3 turnover differential. Carolina’s defense capitalizing on a less experienced quarterback could be the deciding factor if the Eagles cannot establish rhythm through the air.

Players To Watch

Bryce Young, QB, Panthers

Young has thrown nine touchdowns against just two interceptions and ranks near the top of the league in passing yards, according to ESPN’s official statistics. A full workload that includes Coker’s return gives him more weapons against a defense that has struggled to contain opposing passing games.

Tanner McKee, QB, Eagles

McKee is projected to make his first start of the season in place of Hurts, according to ESPN. How he manages the offense against a Carolina defense that has generated seven takeaways will shape Philadelphia’s chances of snapping its three-game skid.

Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Panthers

McMillan has 26 catches for 385 yards and two touchdowns this season and gives Young a reliable target as the Panthers look to keep pace with their top-five scoring average.

What To Watch

Carolina sits at .500 in the NFC South standings, tied for the division’s best winning percentage alongside Atlanta. Philadelphia, meanwhile, trails the New York Giants in the NFC East at 2-3. A loss would extend the Eagles’ skid to four games and add pressure on an offense already ranked near the bottom of the league statistically. For the Panthers, a road win would mark their first test against a quarterback change under center for the opposition and continue a stretch in which their offense has outpaced most of the league through the season’s first month.
