Ohio State lost to USC in a rainy Los Angeles Coliseum on Halloween night. Luke Fahey, the freshman quarterback, got the start for the Buckeyes. Ohio State has still not scored a touchdown against USC at the Los Angeles Coliseum. They kicked three field goals in the first half, one after having the ball first and one from the six-inch line. And they kicked a fourth one in the third quarter.

This was a tough game as Ohio State lost to USC, and the defense is going to have to play a lot better. They are also going to have to stop committing so many penalties. As you know, they are limited because their starting quarterback, Julian Sayin, is hurt, and they have to start a freshman, Luke Fahey. This limits their offense and means they cannot afford mistakes. Do you think Ohio State will be able to win the rest of its regular season football games?

Ohio State lost to USC on Halloween night. The narrow win raises significant questions about the Buckeyes going forward. They made a lot of mistakes in this game and must clean up how they play if they are to win the rest of their games and have any chance at all to win the National Championship. Here is how the game played out.

In the first quarter, quarterback Jayden Maiava hit Trent Mosely on a huge 69-yard touchdown pass. That bomb made it 7-0 for USC after the successful extra point. Ohio State’s Connor Hawkins then kicked a 39-yard field goal. That connection made the score 7-3. Then USC scored another touchdown. Waymond Jordan ran for a 9-yard touchdown for them. With the successful extra point, the score was now 14-3. That was the final score of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Ohio State kicked their second field goal of the game when Connor Hawkins kicked a 34-yard field goal. The score was 14-6. USC got another field goal. This was a 54-yard field goal kicked by the backup placekicker, Ryon Sayeri. The score was 17-6. Connor Hawkins then kicked a 23-yard field goal after the Buckeyes had the ball first and goal from 6 inches away. The score was 17-9. Right before the half, Caden Chittenden kicked a 36-yard field goal. The halftime score was 20-9.

In the third quarter, after an Ohio State fumble, USC scored another touchdown, making the score 27-9. King Miller had a 1-yard touchdown run. The big play on that 3-play drive was a long completion to tight end Matt Bowman. That was the only score of the third quarter, which ended 27-9.

In the fourth quarter, Connor Hawkins kicked a 47-yard field goal, which made the score 27-12. All these field goals instead of touchdowns killed the Buckeyes. They factored heavily into the Ohio State loss to USC. With very little time left in the game, Jeremiah Smith, who else, scored a touchdown. Ohio State failed to make a two-point try. The score was 27-18. That was Ohio State’s first touchdown in the Los Angeles Coliseum against USC since 1949. Then, USC kicked a 32-yard field goal to make the score 30-18. That was the final score of the game.

This Game and the Next

Ohio State lost to USC in this game, though Ohio State running back Bo Jackson had over one hundred yards rushing; the player of the game was USC quarterback Jayden Maiava. He hit two long completions, one at the beginning of the game, which set the tone for the game. Ohio State next hosts Oregon. The Ducks are not as good as they were supposed to be before the season. USC has a bye next week and then plays at Indiana in two weeks. Indiana had an unbelievable win today. They made a 60-yard field goal to force overtime and then scored a touchdown on the first play and stopped Minnesota on the goal line.

Conclusion: Mistakes as Ohio State Lost to USC

Ohio State lost to USC because it made too many mistakes. The Buckeyes turned the ball over and committed twelve penalties. Their defense was porous and gave up big plays, including right at the start of the game. That one set the tone. With two losses now, Ohio State has its back against the wall and cannot afford another loss if they want to make the College Football Playoff.
