Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks on Saturday in their game against USC. Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day said this Tuesday in his weekly Press Conference. In that meeting, Day refused to name a starting quarterback, but he did say one or the other should start getting first-team practice repetitions to get them ready to start on Saturday. He also said both players could play.

Elsewhere, former Ohio State star quarterback Cardale Jones, who knows something about a backup quarterback coming in to win games, said he is confident in either. This is good since Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks Saturday. Are you confident in either quarterback?

Ohio State, with its starting quarterback perhaps out for the season with a shoulder injury, might employ a unique solution to this problem when they play at the USC Trojans. Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks on Saturday. Head coach Ryan Day had a press conference on Tuesday. He talked about the quarterback situation. Here is what he said.

What Did Ryan Day Say?

During his press conference on Tuesday, Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day refused to name a starting quarterback for the game at USC on Saturday. He needs to replace injured starting quarterback Julian Sayin. Previously, he said Sayin could miss, “significant time.” When asked if Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks on Saturday, Day said, “It’s definitely possible, what the situations would be and what the circumstances would be, we’d have to see, but yeah, there’s definitely a chance.”

He also indicated that the starting quaterback, whoever he is, would need significant practice time with the starters to get ready. Day said the Buckeyes are “working on packages for both guys,” hinting at the possibility that whoever does not start could still see playing time in some capacity. There is an idea on that below. It certainly looks like Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks on Saturday.

Cardale Jones Confident in Both Quarterbacks

Obviously, Cardale Jones knows the position of quaterback at Ohio State well. He is conifent in either Luke Fahey or Tavion St. Clare. He said, ” They are both at Ohio State for a reason.” So the reader can remember, Twelve years ago, Jones took over as Ohio State’s starting quarterback after J.T. Barrett went down with a season-ending ankle injury in the Buckeyes’ regular-season finale against Michigan. He went on to lead the Buckeyes to a 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and then iconic wins in the College Football Playoff over Alabama and Oregon.

Cardale Jones is revered at Ohio State. Since he relaced an injured starter he is quite happy that Ohio State could play 2 quarterbacks on Saturday. One of those two, or both, will replace injured starting quarterback Julian Sayin. The injury to Sayin could be out for the entire season, so Saturday’s game is very important.

What is Jones advice to either Fahey or St. Clare? “Just go out there and be yourself,” Jones told Eleven Warriors. “I mean, you’re here at Ohio State for a reason. It’s easy to go out there to feel like you should prove somebody wrong. I think all these guys are here for a reason and understand that they don’t have to do it by themselves. You don’t have to go out there and be Julian Sayin, but quick, easy decisions are often going to get the job done.”

Conclusion: A Good Idea

If Ohio State wants suggestions about how it should use its 2 quarterbacks on Saturday, here is a suggestion. Ryan Day said Luke Fahey is ahead, as he has been since the summer. So, start him and give him the majority of the snaps. Bring in Tavion St. Clare to run some special plays, such as goal-line quarterback runs. Day must keep both quarterbacks happy, and he must win the game. A way to do that is for the Buckeyes to play both players and give them both meaningful roles. The big-bodied St. Clare could be a good option near the goal line.
