Ohio State destroyed Maryland 45-16 in its last easy game. It gets difficult now, but this game enabled the Buckeyes to get lots of players into the game. It was homecoming at Ohio State, a fitting game, with a weak opponent and an expected blowout. The game ended up being a good one for alumni to return to Columbus.

It is difficult to be a Terripin. Maybe after this destruction, Maryland head coach Mike Locksley will get fired. He is on the hot seat following several blowout losses, including a 54-7 home loss to UCLA. Despite Maryland’s low-quality team, Ryan Day was complimentary of them before the game. He said, “A very good-looking team. A talented team. They have size up front, skill on the outside, speed. I know they had a couple of tough games here recently, but man, they’re a talented and dangerous team, so they have our attention. Do you think Day was lying, or was that just coach speak?

Ohio State destroyed Maryland in this homecoming game. Before the game, they had a 94.7% chance to win it. This enabled them to get some of their substitutes in. It was the last easy game on the schedule for the Buckeyes, who are about to enter the most difficult part of their schedule. Here is how the game played out.

In the first quarter, Jeremiah Smith caught a 33-yard touchdown pass. It was 7-0 Buckeyes. Then Maryland placekicker Sean O’Haire kicked a 39-yard field goal. Julian Sayin hit Nate Roberts for a 68-yard touchdown. It was a long strike to the tight End, and it was 14-3 Ohio State after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Maryland quarterback Malik Washington ran for a 5-yard touchdown. The score was 14-10, and a little too close for comfort, but Ohio State was able to score 17 consecutive points before the half ended. Julian Sayin first hit Jeremiah Smith for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Then, Connor Hawkins made a 40-yard field goal for the Buckeyes. Finally, Mason Williams caught a one-yard touchdown pass, his first at Ohio State. He made the extra point, making the halftime score 31-10. Sayin has 4 touchdown passes in this game; he has 50 for his career.

In the third quarter, Daniel Wingate had a pick-six. Juian Sayin got hit on the play, and that disrupted his throwing motion. The two-point play was not successful, so the score was 34-16. Bo Jackson then rushed for a 25-yard touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Bo Jackson ran for a 2-yard touchdown. With the successful extra point, the score was 45-16. That was the final score of the game.

The Surprising Luke Fahey

Before this season, it was thought by many that quarterback Tavion St. Clare was the number two quarterback for the Buckeyes. This is an important job, as the backup quarterback is just one injury away from being the starting quarterback. However, he has lost that job to Luke Fahey, who has been coming in before him in several games so far this season, as he did today. With 2:36 left.

St. Clare played at a small high school in Ohio, Bellefontaine. Fahey is small, 5 foot 11. Though he played at a big California High School, Mission Viejo. People have said that if he were 6 foot 3, he would have been a five-star recruit instead of the three-star recruit he was. It is thought that playing at a more accomplished high school has given Fahey an advantage; it seems so.

This Game and the Next

Ohio State won this game 45-16. The player of this game was quarterback Julian Sayin. He had 4 touchdown passes against no interceptions. He now has 50 touchdown passes in his career and has 13 touchdown passes this season with just one interception. He added 14 yards rushing. Since the emphasis was on him running more this year, the positive rushing yards for him are a good sign. Ohio State next plays Indiana. Maryland goes home to play Rutgers.

Conclusion: Give Him the Heisman Trophy Now

As the game neared halftime, Jeremiah Smith one-handed threw a defender after a catch. This impressive highlight will be on the highlights of the game, along with his two touchdowns. Following his two 200-yard receiving games, he had two touchdowns and 93 receiving yards in this game. He is clearly the best player in college football, and he is currently the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
