The complete story
Founded in Los Angeles in 1959/1960 as an AFL charter franchise, the Chargers won the 1963 AFL Championship before relocating to San Diego in 1961 (where they played for 56 seasons) and joining the NFL in the 1970 merger. They returned to Los Angeles in 2017, played at Dignity Health Sports Park, and moved into SoFi Stadium (shared with the Rams) in 2020. Despite a Hall-of-Fame-laden history (Fouts, Alworth, Seau, Tomlinson, Gates) and back-to-back 11-6 seasons in 2024-2025 under Jim Harbaugh, the Chargers have never won a Super Bowl, falling 49-26 to San Francisco in Super Bowl XXIX, and started 0-6 in 2026.
