New York Mets Dominated By Toronto Blue Jays 6-2

The New York Mets had a rough nigh on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The New York Mets had a game they would like to forget tonight on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays. New York lost 6-2 to drop the second game of this series. New York Mets Center Fielder Brandon Nimmo got the scoring started early in this game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. The Mets would not score another run this evening until the top of the seventh.

Toronto tied the game at one thanks to an RBI single by Shortstop Leo Jimenez in the bottom of the second. The Blue Jays offense then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to put the game out of reach. New York Mets Starting Pitcher David Peterson was coming off a solid stretch of starts but struggled greatly tonight. He surrendered four earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. Starting Pitcher Chris Bassitt on the other hand was great tonight. He surrendered one earned run over six innings while punching out eight hitters. Will the New York Mets be able to get back in the win column on Wednesday?

With their loss this evening, the New York Mets are tied with the Atlanta Braves for the third and final National League Wild Card spot. Both teams have a 79-66 record with only 17 games remaining in the 2024 regular season. The final wild card spot will go down to the wire this season. New York has a 59.4% chance to make the playoffs while Atlanta holds the slight edge with a 62.2% chance according to FanGraphs.

Looking Ahead To Tomorrow’s Game

The final game of this three-game set will pit New York Mets Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea(11-5, 3.43 ERA) against Toronto’s Bowden Francis(8-4, 3.72 ERA.) This should be a low-scoring game if both of these starting pitchers pitch up to their potential tomorrow afternoon. Manaea has been great this season as he is top 20 in the league in both strikeouts and WHIP. He walked away with a no-decision in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds surrendering four earned runs over 6.2 innings. He will look to put forth another solid start on Wednesday.

Francis had a tremendous August that resulted in him being named American League Pitcher of the Month and he got off to a strong start in September. He surrendered three earned runs over six innings of work in a loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. Both ballclubs will look for a series victory tomorrow night in Canada.
