The Los Angeles Chargers re-signed Linebacker Khalil Mack to a one-year $18 million fully-guaranteed deal on Monday morning. Mack was set to become a free agent for the first time in his illustrious career later this week. He is coming off a respectable 2024 campaign with the Los Angeles Chargers making his ninth career Pro Bowl. He finished with 39 total tackles and 6 sacks. He had a down year though. He finished ninth in DPOY voting in 2023. Will Mack be a key contributor to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025?
Los Angeles Chargers Offseason Outlook
Los Angeles is looking to build upon a solid 2024 season this spring. They finished 11-6 and made the NFL Playoffs in their first season under Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. Quarterback Justin Herbert had a historically awful game in the Wild Card Round against the Houston Texans, but that should not overshadow a solid season for the team.
LA’s defense will look different next season. They announced the release of Joey Bosa last week. The Chargers will look to give Mack a solid piece to help him rush the passer in 2025. Los Angeles surrendered the fewest points per game and will look to keep it going next season.
Final Thoughts
Mack returning to the Chargers is a shrewd move for the franchise. Even though he was not as strong in 2024, the future Hall of Famer has much left in the tank. Mack will look to provide a veteran presence to a team that could be overhauled this offseason.
