Ravens head coach Jesse Minter ruled quarterback Lamar Jackson out for Sunday’s game against the Falcons, confirming the Lamar Jackson injury will keep him off the field in Atlanta. Tyler Huntley will start in his place, Minter announced Friday.

Jackson sustained an ankle injury that knocked him out of the second half of Baltimore’s Week 4 game and did not practice at all this week leading into the Falcons matchup. The Ravens are 3-1 and tied atop the AFC North with the Cleveland Browns heading into Week 5, with kickoff set for Sunday Night Football in Atlanta.

Lamar Jackson Injury: QB Out vs. Falcons

Minter’s Friday announcement makes official what had been in question throughout the week: Jackson will not play. The decision followed a week in which Jackson was unable to practice because of the ankle injury he suffered in the second half of Week 4. No timeline for his return has been given.

Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle had been preparing two separate game plans, one built around Jackson and one around Huntley, according to NFL.com. With Jackson’s absence now confirmed, Baltimore moves forward with the plan built for its backup.

Huntley Takes Over At Quarterback

Huntley, a former Pro Bowl backup, steps into the starting role for the fifth different season in which he has started in place of an injured or resting Jackson, spanning 2021 through 2023 and again in 2025. He went 2-0 as Baltimore’s starter in 2025.

His most recent game action came in relief of Jackson in the second half of Week 4, when he completed eight of nine passes for 63 yards as the Ravens offense totaled just 116 yards on 28 plays. NFL.com noted that Huntley does not bring the same explosive ability as Jackson, either as a passer or a runner.

Falcons defensive back DeMarcco Hellams, speaking before the matchup, acknowledged the gap between the two quarterbacks but credited Huntley’s track record. “There is only one Lamar Jackson,” Hellams said. “I think Snoop as a backup quarterback in this league, and even as a starter at times, has shown the ability to come in and really kind of run the offense, make plays with his legs and be able to make plays on third down.”

What Jackson’s Absences Have Meant For Baltimore

The Ravens are 6-11 in games Jackson has missed since he became the full-time starter in 2019, a mark that underscores how much the offense is built around him. Huntley’s two prior starts in 2025 came during that same stretch of change at the position, though Baltimore has had mixed results overall when Jackson has been sidelined.
