The Seattle Kraken scored four unanswered goals in the second period and held on for a 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday at Little Caesars Arena. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice in the outburst, and Ben Meyers finished with a goal and two assists as Seattle improved to 3-2-0.

Detroit built an early 2-1 lead before the roof caved in during the middle frame. The Red Wings got goals from Viktor Arvidsson and William Wallinder, the latter his first career NHL goal, but goaltender John Gibson was pulled after allowing four goals on nine shots in the second period. Detroit fell to 1-3-0 in what was the finale of a four-game homestand.

Key Moments: How Seattle Pulled Away

Arvidsson opened the scoring on the power play at 9:19 of the first period, his third straight game with a man-advantage goal. The goal came after a Lucas Raymond shot slipped through goaltender Philipp Grubauer’s pads before Arvidsson tapped it in. Berkly Catton answered for Seattle at 14:52, finishing a rush with a backhand off a Kaapo Kakko feed to make it 1-1 after one period.

Wallinder’s point shot through traffic at 4:00 of the second period put Detroit back in front 2-1, but the Red Wings would not score again until the final minutes. Gaudreau tied it 2-2 at 14:39 by tapping in a Ryan Winterton pass from in front of the net. Mackie Samoskevich capitalized on a Wallinder turnover moments later, finishing a Jared McCann feed to put Seattle ahead 3-2 at 6:59. Gaudreau struck again at 7:44, snapping a wrist shot from the left face-off circle off another Winterton setup to make it 4-2.

Meyers capped the surge at 14:05, scoring just 12 seconds after exiting the penalty box to push the lead to 5-2. The Kraken outscored Detroit 4-1 in the period and chased Gibson, who gave way to Daniil Tarasov making his debut in relief. Vince Dunn added a power-play goal at 11:53 of the third on a two-man advantage before Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, with his first NHL goal, closed the scoring at 15:27 for the 6-3 final.

Top Performers From Both Sides

Gaudreau’s two-goal game led all Seattle skaters, while Meyers tied him for team scoring with three points on a goal and two assists. Brandon Montour and Winterton each chipped in two assists for the Kraken. Grubauer made 38 saves to backstop Seattle in the win.

For Detroit, Brandsegg-Nygard finished with a goal and an assist for two points, the top mark on the roster. Gibson allowed five goals on 15 shots before his exit, and Tarasov stopped 10 of 11 shots faced in relief.
