The Boston Celtics continue to be linked to Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but a new report suggests one major obstacle could complicate any blockbuster deal.

According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Celtics star Jaylen Brown would have little interest in remaining with Milwaukee if he were included in a trade package for Antetokounmpo.

The report adds another fascinating layer to what could become the biggest NBA storyline of the offseason.

Jaylen Brown Reportedly Doesn’t Want to Play for Milwaukee

Speaking on SportsCenter, Spears revealed that Boston remains interested in finding a way to land Antetokounmpo.

“The Celtics, I’m hearing, would love to sneak in and get him,” Spears said. “That might mean moving Jaylen Brown to another place. I know Jaylen wouldn’t want to play for Milwaukee.”

While Spears did not elaborate on Brown’s reasoning, the comment is significant because any realistic Celtics offer for Antetokounmpo would almost certainly need to begin with Brown.

Milwaukee would be unlikely to entertain a deal that doesn’t include one of Boston’s franchise cornerstones.

Celtics Could Still Be a Serious Giannis Contender

Despite falling short of expectations in the playoffs, Boston remains one of the few teams capable of putting together a package worthy of a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber.

Brown remains one of the league’s elite two-way wings and is coming off another outstanding season. Even with Jayson Tatum missing significant time, Brown helped keep the Celtics among the Eastern Conference’s top contenders and continued to build on his championship résumé.

Adding Antetokounmpo to a core that still features Tatum would immediately put Boston back near the top of the title conversation. The challenge is convincing Milwaukee that Boston’s package is better than competing offers around the league.

Milwaukee May Have Better Options

According to Spears, the Miami Heat have emerged as another serious contender in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Interestingly, Spears noted that Miami may possess the strongest overall trade package available, although the Bucks reportedly aren’t enthusiastic about what the Heat are offering.

That leaves the door open for teams like Boston to stay involved. However, Brown’s reported reluctance to remain in Milwaukee could create complications. If the Bucks acquired Brown only to face immediate uncertainty about his long-term future, it could lessen the appeal of a Celtics-centered deal.

Giannis Rumors Continue to Dominate NBA Offseason

At this point, no trade appears imminent, but speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo continues to intensify as the offseason approaches.

For Boston, the equation is simple: acquiring a two-time MVP would be worth serious consideration. For Milwaukee, the goal is maximizing value if the franchise decides to move on from one of the greatest players in team history.

Brown’s reported stance adds another wrinkle to an already complex situation. If Antetokounmpo becomes available, the Celtics may still pursue him aggressively, but finding a trade structure that satisfies all parties could prove far more difficult than simply swapping stars.
