James Madison dropped a conference game to the Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The score was 5-4, and the Dukes fell to 13-15 on the season. For them, Clay Thompson hit a home run, but that was not enough.

James Madison fell to 4-6 in the Sun Belt conference with the loss to the Rajin’ Cajuns. Patrick Bauer pitched four scoreless innings for the Dukes. Kyle Langley, who plays left field for the Dukes, robbed a home run just before the Rajin’ Cajuns went deep. Do you think JMU will get swept in this series, too?

James Madison and Louisiana-Lafayette Scoring

In the first inning, Lee Amedee hit a solo home run, and the Ragin’ Cajuns took a 1-0 lead. Also in the first inning, in the bottom of the inning, Thompson hit a home run for the Dukes, tying the game at 1. In the third inning, the Ragin’ Cajuns took a 4-1 lead. Steven Spalitta doubled with the bases loaded. Amedee, Rigoberto Hernandez, and Colt Brown all scored. In the fourth inning, Donovan LaSalle hit a solo home run for Louisiana-Lafayette. That made the score 5-1. Yet another home run.

In the fourth inning, James Madison scored three runs. First, Jack Anderson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Ryan Gocio scored. Then, Kyle Langley walked, still with the bases loaded.  Wyatt Campbell scored. Finally, Thompson reached on a fielder’s choice, and Cameron Aycock scored. It was 5-4, and that was the final score of the game. A disappointing loss for the Dukes, no doubt

Player Of the Game

Amedee was 3-of-3 with a home run. LaSalle hit a home run as well. For James Madison, Clay Thompson went two for four with his third home run of the season. Also worthy of praise is Patrick Bauer, who pitched four scoreless innings.

Turning Point

The turning point of the game was when Spalitta hit a double with the bases loaded in the third inning. That double cleared the bases, and three runs scored. The big hit drove in more runs than any hit in the game. James Madison never recovered from that hit. They never again led in the game.

Parting Shots

Dropping the first game of this conference series was less than ideal for James Madison. This was a conference game, and the Dukes fell to 13-15 on the season. They are now 4-6 in the conference. Louisiana-Lafayette is not that good and is a team that deserves to be beaten. It is a little strange that they played on Good Friday. Hint, they won 6-5 in 11 innings.
