Jaelen House cut by Jazz after best 17.3-point G League year

Jaelen House’s stay in Utah Jazz training camp lasted three days. The Jazz waived the 6-foot guard on Thursday, Oct. 1, the team announced on NBA.com, two days after camp opened and ahead of Utah’s first preseason games this weekend.

The team did not disclose contract details or announce a corresponding move.

Jaelen House by the numbers

House has spent his pro career in the NBA G League and overseas. Here is what the Jazz release listed:

  • San Diego Clippers (G League), 2024-26: 53 games, three starts, 13.8 points, 4.9 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 20.2 minutes
  • 2025-26 with San Diego: 32 games, 17.3 points, 6.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 24.8 minutes
  • Beijing Royal Fighters (CBA), 2026: 18 games, 15.7 points, 45.6 percent from 3-point range, 4.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds
  • New Mexico, 2023-24: Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, All-Mountain West second team and All-Mountain West defensive team

The jump from his first to second G League season was real. Based on the release’s two-year and second-season averages, Jaelen House roughly doubled both his minutes and his scoring in 2025-26, then shot well from deep in China.

Why Utah had little room

The Jazz opened camp Tuesday with two practices and plan to start preseason play over the weekend, according to the team’s camp notebook. Utah has plenty of options on the perimeter. Coach Will Hardy will spend the coming weeks sorting minutes on the wing, the team wrote, with Brice Sensabaugh drawing praise from Keyonte George and Jusuf Nurkić for his offseason work.

Utah also brought back Nurkić, who averaged 10.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and a career-high 4.8 assists as the starting center last season. “He was a priority for us,” said Austin Ainge, the Jazz president of basketball operations.

A familiar last name

Jaelen House is the son of Eddie House, the former NBA guard who won a title with the 2008 Boston Celtics. Jaelen finished his college career at New Mexico, where he earned the conference’s top defensive honor as a senior.

If he clears waivers, he becomes a free agent. Camp rosters are shifting across the league this week; the Knicks, for example, added center Tony Bradley on an Exhibit 9 deal. For more roster moves, follow our NBA news.
