Ezekiel Elliott was one of the best running backs in Ohio State history and has had a fabulous National Football League career. Before turning professional, he spent three seasons with the Buckeyes from 2013-2015. He racked up the yards and won a national title. The Dallas Cowboys would select him in the 2016 NFL Draft, fourth overall. He signed a new contract this offseason back with the Dallas Cowboys, after spending a year with the New England Patriots. This article will focus on his college career, which was stellar.
Ezekiel Elliott At Ohio State
Ezekiel Elliott was recruited out of high school in Missouri. As a freshman in 2013, Elliott had 30 carries for 1,403 yards and seven touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2018, Elliott had 262 carries for 1,878 yards and 18 touchdowns. Ohio State won the National Championship that year. In his junior season (2015), Elliott had 289 carries for a remarkable 1,801 yards and 23 touchdowns. Elliott did all he could, but Ohio State did not win the National Championship in 2015.
In his career at Ohio State, he averaged 6.7 yards per carry and caught a few passes (58 for 449 yards). Elliott was challenging to tackle at Ohio State, he just plowed through defenders. He tended to run between the tackles and benefitted from an excellent offensive line, several of whom played in the National Football League.
Elliott In The NFL
Ezekiel Elliott was picked by the Dallas Cowboys fourth overall in the first round of the 2016 National Football League Draft. He was very highly rated coming out of Ohio State. He was simply too talented to go anywhere but the top of the draft.
Elliott has met expectations in the NFL during his long career. In nine seasons in the NFL thus far, he has rushed for 8,966 yards on 2,084 carries in 123 games. He has scored 72 touchdowns as a professional, and he probably had the funniest touchdown celebration ever in the National Football League when he jumped into the giant Salvation Army collection kettle. He has played for the Dallas Cowboys for seven seasons. He played for New England for one season. He re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys before this season.
The National Football League average career for a running back is less than four seasons, but Ezekiel Elliott has been healthy in the nine seasons he has played. He was a starter for the Dallas Cowboys for the first seven years of his career. For a time, he was the best running back in the NFL.
Conclusion
Ezekiel Elliott had a superb college career. He won a national championship and was a feature running back for Ohio State. It made sense for him to turn professional after three college football seasons at Ohio State. Ezekiel Elliott has also been outstanding as a professional. He is now nearing the end of his professional career. It is funny how quickly it goes.
