Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants in Springfield, Oregon, according to ESPN. The Ducks’ leading receiver was booked at approximately 7 a.m. PT and released about an hour later to a third party, fellow Oregon receiver Dakorien Moore.

Stewart, a senior, did not play in Oregon’s home win over Nebraska on Saturday night. He had been downgraded from questionable to doubtful late in the week before the game because of an undisclosed injury.

What Happened

The arrest came less than 24 hours after Oregon’s victory over Nebraska, a game Stewart missed due to his injury designation. Details of what led to the traffic stop or arrest have not been disclosed. No additional information about the specific allegations has been made public beyond the charge itself.

Being charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants does not establish guilt, and Stewart has not been convicted of any offense in connection with the arrest.

Response

Oregon had not publicly acknowledged Stewart’s arrest as of Monday morning, according to ESPN. No statement from the university, the football program or Stewart himself has been issued.

Team And League Policy Steps

No disciplinary action from Oregon or the Big Ten has been announced. It is not yet known whether the charge will affect Stewart’s eligibility or playing status for upcoming games, and the program has given no indication of how it plans to handle the matter internally.

Season Context

Stewart has been Oregon’s most productive offensive weapon this season, hauling in 27 receptions for 352 yards and four touchdowns through five games, all team highs.

What’s Next

No court date or further legal proceeding information has been released. Oregon’s offense has dealt with other question marks recently, including turnover issues detailed in Oregon’s turnover problems and playoff outlook, and a disputed spot that factored into the Big Ten’s costly second spotting error against UCLA. Any update on Stewart’s legal case, his health status or his standing with the team would mark the next development in the story.
