Dream sweep Mystics 93-75 behind Gray’s 22 points, Canada’s 19-11 double-double

The Atlanta Dream beat the Washington Mystics 93-75 on Wednesday at CareFirst Arena, completing a two-game sweep of their WNBA first-round series. Allisha Gray scored 22 points and Jordin Canada posted 19 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds to lead the way.

Atlanta pulled away in the fourth quarter after Washington hung within striking distance for three periods. The Dream outscored the Mystics 28-17 in the final frame. Sonia Citron led the Mystics with 25 points and seven rebounds, but Washington shot just 38% from the field and committed 19 turnovers that Atlanta converted into 23 points.

The Dream never trailed. Canada opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, and Atlanta built a 24-17 lead after one quarter. Naz Hillmon’s 3-pointer with 1:40 left in the half pushed the lead to 39-28, forcing Washington to play catch-up the rest of the way.

The Mystics trimmed the deficit to 41-35 at halftime and stayed within single digits through three quarters, but Atlanta’s defense tightened in the fourth. Washington managed just 17 points over the final 10 minutes while the Dream scored 28, closing out the sweep with a 19-point largest lead.

Top performers

Gray shot 8-for-18 from the field, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range, and added four steals. Canada finished 6-for-16 shooting with four 3-pointers, seven rebounds and 11 assists against just one turnover. Angel Reese added 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting, seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 28 minutes. Rhyne Howard scored 15 points and dished four assists, and every Dream starter reached double figures.

For Washington, Citron led all scorers with 25 points on 6-for-13 shooting and added seven rebounds. Kiki Iriafen posted 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, and Michaela Onyenwere scored 12 points off the bench. Georgia Amoore managed just two points and four assists while shooting 1-for-5.

Atlanta’s victory completes a sweep of the best-of-three series after the Dream won the opener 92-77, extending Atlanta’s winning streak to five games and advancing the team to the next round of the playoffs. The Dream finish the regular season at 30-14, while the Mystics’ season ends at 28-16. Washington outrebounded Atlanta 42-27 with 12 offensive rebounds, but the Dream’s 23 assists against 8 turnovers overwhelmed a Mystics team that committed 19 giveaways and shot 32% from 3-point range.

What’s next

Atlanta advances to the next round of the WNBA playoffs, with the opponent and schedule to be determined. Washington’s season is over following the sweep. The Dream won the series in Game 2 after taking a 1-0 lead in the opener.
