Washington starting quarterback Demond Williams Jr. left Friday’s game against Iowa in the first half for X-rays on his side and ribs, according to ESPN. Williams exited after a third-down run late in the first half with Washington trailing 27-0. The Huskies lost to Iowa 41-24.

Williams went into the medical tent before walking to the locker room, accompanied by two team staffers, according to Sports Illustrated. The Husky radio broadcast reported he was headed for an X-ray, and he did not return to the game.

Demond Williams Jr. injury: What Happened

No official injury designation has been announced for Williams. ESPN reported he was set for X-rays on his side and ribs, while Sports Illustrated described the injury only as unspecified at the time he left the field. Williams was sacked four times in the first quarter and a half before his exit, according to Sports Illustrated.

Who Replaces Him

Elijah Brown, a transfer from Stanford, took over at quarterback for Washington after Williams left the game, according to ESPN. Brown completed 28 of 39 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the remainder of the game.

Williams, listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, is in his second season as Washington’s starting quarterback. He entered Saturday’s game with 1,327 passing yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions this season, adding 191 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
