Daniel Dubois says a fight against Tyson Fury could follow his rematch with Fabio Wardley, though the WBO heavyweight champion insists his full attention is on the rematch set for Oct. 17. Dubois made the comments to Sky Sports as he prepares to face Wardley for a second time.
Dubois beat Wardley in their first meeting by forcing a stoppage after being knocked down twice. He has also scored a knockout win over Anthony Joshua, a result he says gives a potential matchup with Fury similar weight to his win over Joshua.
Dubois Addresses His Fury Timeline
Dubois framed a fight with Fury as something that depends on both men winning their next bouts. Fury is scheduled to face Joshua on Dec. 11, a fight that would need to go Fury’s way for the matchup Dubois describes to become realistic.
“What a fight that would be. It’s like me and AJ all over again. That sort of magnitude.
That’s what boxing‘s about really. Frank [Warren, their promoter] would love it, he’s got both of us. I’ve got to come through my next fight and anything’s possible,” Dubois said.
Warren promotes both Dubois and Fury, a detail Dubois pointed to as a factor in getting the fight made if both deliver results in their upcoming bouts.
What It Means For The Wardley Rematch
Dubois was careful to separate the Fury talk from his immediate assignment against Wardley. “I’m not looking past Fabio at all. One fight at a time. I’m just dedicating myself 100 percent to this fight,” he said.
Dubois also said he wants to finish Wardley earlier and more cleanly than he did in their first encounter, when he needed to recover from two knockdowns before forcing the stoppage.
Context On Dubois’s Path To Undisputed Status
Dubois holds the WBO heavyweight title, but no information has been confirmed on what an undisputed run would require or which other belt holders stand in his way. He has not laid out a specific timeline for an undisputed championship bid, and no confirmation exists on whether the Wardley rematch carries title implications beyond his current belt.
The Fury scenario remains hypothetical by Dubois’s own description, tied directly to the outcomes of two separate fights still to be contested.
What’s Next
Dubois faces Wardley in their rematch on Oct. 17. Fury is set to fight Joshua on Dec. 11, a result Dubois says will factor into whether a fight between him and Fury can be arranged.
