The Dallas Cowboys and Running Back Javonte Williams agreed to a one-year $3 million deal on Monday night. Williams is coming off a mediocre 2024 campaign with the Denver Broncos. He had 513 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.
Williams saw his statistics deflated last season due to a running back platoon with Jaleel McLaughlin. He will look to have better statistics in 2025 as the team’s top running back. How will Williams fare with the Dallas Cowboys this season?
Dallas Cowboys Offseason Outlook
Dallas is coming off a disappointing regular season. They finished 7-10 and missed the NFL Playoffs. A main issue for the team was the health of Quarterback Dak Prescott. He was limited to 8 games with a hamstring injury. The underwhelming season led to the team letting Mike McCarthy’s contract expire and the hiring of former OC Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s next head coach.
Williams is the Cowboys’ first free-agent signing. Their other marquee moves were re-signing Osa Odighizuwa and restructuring the contracts of Prescott and Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb. The signing of Williams led to a shakeup in the team’s running back room. Running Back Rico Dowdle will reportedly not be returning to the Dallas Cowboys in 2025.
Final Thoughts
Taking the team’s track record into account, Dallas may not be signing any high-profile free agents this offseason. Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones has always prioritized re-signing his players instead of going out and spending big in free agency. Dallas must also focus this spring on signing Defensive End Micah Parsons to a contract extension that will make him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in league history.
